Frequently asked questions

Does it hurt?

The procedure is carried out under intravenous sedation. Sedation is an injection in the back of the hand, which makes you feel less anxious. Although you will be awake, the effect of sedation will relax you sufficiently to enable treatment to be carried out. Most patients will not remember the treatment. Verbal contact will be maintained at all times, and the level of sedation can be altered as required.

After the treatment, there should only be mild discomfort, which should be controlled with regular painkillers.

Why is it so expensive?

Dental Implant treatment is not cheap. We use the highest digital technology and extensively researched implants. Reducing costs would involve cutting corners by removing key processes of your treatment and potentially compromising the result. This is simply something we are not prepared to do.

Why choose us?

We have over 20 years of experience in implant dentistry. We are trained to the highest standard (Master of Science and Diplomas in Implant Dentistry) and our practice has the highest level of equipment from CT scans, digital impression cameras, and 3D printers.

What if I cannot have fixed teeth on the same day?

This happens very rarely if the bone quality is not great. This happens to 0.5% of patients we see, and we would then have to provide you with a full denture whilst the implants fuse to the bone. This can take 3-6 months until we are then able to fit the temporary fixed teeth.

Will I like my final teeth?

At each stage, we will show you the teeth so you can make adjustments and approve the final finish.

Why not go abroad as it is cheaper?

The cost of dental implants abroad such as in Turkey and Budapest can be lower. But there is a reason it is cheaper abroad.

Often cheaper dental implants are used, which have been less extensively researched, so the risk of infection can be higher and long-term successes are reduced. Dentistry in the UK is highly regulated and the equipment and dental implants we use must conform to a standard.

We have had patients who have had treatment abroad and are not satisfied with the results. This is mostly due to communication and language barriers, and the patient has not fully understood what is going on. The cost of returning to the country would make the treatment for them more expensive in the long term.

Often the cost of remedial treatment when you have had dental implants abroad is vastly greater than if you have had them in the UK.

We have a team of highly experienced clinicians and technicians with over 20 years of experience. Should anything not go to plan, patients are able to return to us with ease.

Finance packages are available to spread the cost of dental implant treatments.

Will I be able to eat foods such as apples/steak?

Absolutely! The only thing we do not advise is to open beer bottles! Initially, however, we would recommend a softer diet immediately after the implants have been placed for 3 months.

How long does it take?

99.5% of the time, we usually have the fixed implant teeth on the same day at the surgery. For those who have weak bones (0.5%), we will place the implants and allow them to fuse to the bone for 3-6 months.

We then allow the implants to fully fuse to the bone which usually takes 3 months, but at most 6 months, and we start working on the final fixed teeth. This takes around 6 weeks. So, all going well, we should be completed in 4-5 months.

Will it feel like my own teeth?

Most patients say they feel exactly like their own teeth. But this takes time. We have replaced your lost bone and tooth with artificial gum work, and this will feel different in the early days. After some time, they will look and feel natural as you get used to them.

You have lost bone and teeth over time, and we have suddenly given everything back. Initially, it will feel large and bulky as your mouth re-adapts.

Will they look like normal teeth, or will people be able to notice I have had it done?

They will look natural and not artificial at all! We aim to provide you with the shape, size, and colour of teeth you desire.

How do I clean them?

This is the most important part of long-term success. Special techniques for brushing under the teeth will be required. You will be guided by our hygienists who are specially trained in looking after these bridges. We will monitor the hygiene at review appointments.

What is the guarantee?

We guarantee all our implants from failure and the teeth from breakages for 5 years as long as you see our hygienist a minimum of twice a year or more if recommended, the implant surgeon once a year, and your own dentist at regular periods.

What happens if the teeth break?

Within the first 5 years, it will be covered under our warranties. We do have conditions on this, being that you need to see our hygienist a minimum of twice a year or more if recommended, the implant surgeon once a year, and your own dentist at regular periods.

After which, it all depends on what has broken, a simple chip would cost around £300 to repair. Worst case, the whole bridge would need remaking, and that would cost £6,000 to £8,000.

How often do I have to come after I get my teeth?

You would need to see our hygienist a minimum of twice a year or more if recommended, the implant surgeon once a year, and your own dentist at regular periods.

What if I do not have enough bone? I have been told implants are not possible

The All on 4/6 technique is designed for those patients who have limited bone. Most patients are able to have this technique, even if they have been told they are not suitable for dental implants. We use digital technology to work out where the best bone is to place the dental implants.

What are the conditions of the warranty?

We do have conditions on this, being that you need to see our hygienist a minimum of twice a year or more if recommended, the implant surgeon once a year, and your own dentist at regular periods.

How much time will I need off?

We recommend that you take the next day off work. Most patients are able to return to work after two days, but it does depend on what you do for a living.

What are my other options?

As well as no treatment, you have the option of a full denture without implant support, a denture with implant support, and conventional dental implants. A full denture has the advantage of being the cheapest but the main disadvantage of looseness and bulk. The implant denture can tackle the looseness but still has the disadvantage of bulk.

Conventional implants require bone grafting and more implants to be placed, making the treatment twice more expensive, but holds the advantage of being the most natural replacement for all your missing teeth.

What are the teeth made of?

The temporary fixed teeth are made of acrylic and the final teeth are made of porcelain.

Am I awake for this treatment?

The procedure is carried out under intravenous sedation. Sedation is an injection in the back of the hand, which makes you feel less anxious. Although you will be awake, the effect of sedation will relax you sufficiently to enable treatment to be carried out.

Most patients will not remember the treatment. Verbal contact will be maintained at all times, and the level of sedation can be altered as required.
